So Proud
These pictures, and room (and I think even one of the nurses) may look familiar... Mitch had the same thing done with his feet last year, remember (click on the word "remember" to see Mitch's foot post)? I was SOOOO proud of Joel today, as he got two bright green casts on this feet and lower legs. He did not even voice a single hint of a complaint. Everyone there was so impressed with him with how relaxed and patient he was. This is not the first time I've noticed that Joel REALLY knows how to turn on the good behavior, especially when strangers request it of him. He was amazing. First, we spent 30 minutes getting his legs wrapped in one cast-like material, letting it harden, and getting it cut off (that mold was to be used to make the AFO's), and then the casting was done in a separate room. The plan is to wear them for two weeks to stretch his heel chords just enough to get him back to normal. Next, when we get the casts off, we will pick up the AFO's (Ankle Foot Orthodics) he was fitted for today, which he will wear (like Mitchell did) until his brain is retrained to not walk on his toes. I'm not really sure how many weeks/months that will take. One step at a time.

Oh my word, I knew you were doing this sometime, but didn't realize that sometime was now! He looks like SUCH a trooper, and so grown up :) I will be prayerful that the next couple weeks go by quickly and uneventfully!
